Three men arrested, 650 pounds of ganja seized in drugs-for-guns bust
Three men, including a Haitian national, were arrested and 650 pounds of ganja seized by the Marine police yesterday evening off Jamaica's south coast.
The ganja, estimated to worth about J$4 million, is believed to be part of the illicit drugs-for-guns trade between Haiti and Jamaica.
According to the police's Corporate Communication Unit (CCU), a police team was on patrol in the Pelican Cay area when they observed three 15-gallon bottles of fuel along the shoreline. During a search of the area plastic bags containing ganja were found.
Investigators from the Narcotics Division who were called in to assist theorise that the drugs was prepared and was about to be picked up by a receiving vessel which may have been in the area at the time. The Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard was also called in to assist with a search of the area but nothing was found.
Arrangements are now being made for the men in custody to be interviewed in the presence of their attorneys.
