Children’s Registry office finding child abuse cases heart-rending
Children’s Registrar Greig Smith says his office is finding it heart-rending to process the thousands of reports of child abuse and missing children it receives.
Smith provided staggering statistics on the issue at the national church service, held to officially launch Child Month yesterday at the Emmanuel Apostolic church in Portmore.
He said since 2014, the Office of the Children’s Registry has received 11,749 cases of child abuse.
Smith stated that it could not be business as usual as he called on Jamaicans to embrace being nosy neighbours as it relates to child abuse.
Meanwhile, Smith says his office is also concerned about the problem of unhealthy practices by children which give rise to various lifestyle diseases.
