Surgical cases at Princess Margaret transferred to KPH following early morning fire
The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) has transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital all cases at the Princess Margaret Hospital requiring surgery following a fire at the St Thomas-based facility this morning.
SERHA says the fire, which started around 2 a.m. also resulted in water damage to the laboratory and x-ray departments located directly below the operating theatre.
The authority says surgeries that were scheduled for Tuesday have already been rescheduled while the laboratory and x-ray departments will start seeing patients this Wednesday.
According to SERHA, its engineering team is assessing the extent of the damage and is working to restore normalcy at Princess Margaret in the shortest possible time.
