The St Ann fire department is continuing investigations into what caused a fire that damaged a section of the Brown's Town market early this morning.

Twenty-five stalls were damaged and an undetermined amount of goods destroyed by the fire, which was said confined to the lower section of the market.

The fire department said the Brown's Town station received a call at 6 a.m. and immediately responded.

The fire, which disrupted early morning proceedings in the town, was quickly brought under control and extinguished.

The fire department is yet to determine an estimate of the damage.

It is not the first time that fire has damaged the Brown's Town market.

On November 27, 2011 the facility was extensive damaged during a blaze.

Efforts to get a comment from the St Ann Parish Council were unsuccessful as Mayor Desmond Gilmore was said to be at a meeting.
