Police seize firearm, ammo in St Catherine and St James
The police say three firearms were seized yesterday, two in St Catherine and one in St James.
In the first incident, between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., special operations were carried out in Shelter Rock, Spanish Town in St Catherine by members of the Spanish Town Police.
During the operation one Beretta .45 pistol and three .45 rounds were seized.
No arrests were made in relation to this find.
Hours later, about 6 p.m., lawmen in St James seized a Glock 17 pistol in the community of Dallas in Glendevon.
One man was accosted, searched and the weapon found in his possession; he is 35-year-old Desroy Smith of Johnson Hill in the parish and he was charged for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He is awaiting the next available court date.
Then, just before midnight, the Seaview Gardens Police were on foot patrol in an area of the community known as Falcon, when they observed a group of men standing on the roadway.
One of the men was accosted, and he was reportedly observed discarding an object behind a wall.
When it was retrieved, it was found to be a 9mm Browning pistol with eleven 9mm rounds of ammunition.
The man was arrested, however, his identity is being withheld at this time.
The police say are continuing to intensify their strategic operations across the island under Operation Tidal Wave, to seize illegal guns, drugs, arrest wanted men and to increase their visibility in key locations.
