The Custos of St Catherine Reverend Jeffrey McKenzie has hailed the teachers of the parish as heroes and heroines of the education system, saying they are to be celebrated on this special day.

Today is being recognised as Teachers' Day as part of the events for Education Week.

"You may not know now how one little touch, a complement, any word, a smile, taking the timeout to listen, can pull a child from the edge of despair," McKenzie said in his Teachers' Day message, adding that the teachers should continue being agents of change.

McKenzie notes, however, that the job of teaching has become increasingly challenging as educators constantly have to compete with the different immoralities consuming the minds of children.

"In spite of these challenges I charge you to remain committed to your task for you have been handpicked," the Custos said.
