Flash flood watch issued for St Mary, Portland

The forecast is for periods of moderate showers and isolated heavy thunderstorms in St Mary and Portland until Saturday afternoon.

The Meteorological Service has issued a flash flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Mary and Portland until 7 a.m. Saturday.

A flash flood watch means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.

According to the Met Service, a stationary front across Jamaica, is projected to move east of the island tonight. 

However, unstable weather conditions are expected to persist with rainfall continuing particularly across St Mary and Portland.

The forecast is for periods of moderate showers and isolated heavy thunderstorms in St Mary and Portland until Saturday afternoon.

Marine interests are advised to be cautious as showers and thunderstorms are occurring over northern waters.
