In March, Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced a plan to implement a comprehensive waste management programme to include the separation of degradable from non-degradable waste at source, and the divestment of the Riverton City disposal site into a waste to energy operation.

Local Government and Community Development Minister, Desmond McKenzie, says a number of companies have expressed interest in setting up waste to energy plants in Jamaica.

McKenzie says submissions have been received from both local and overseas entities.

He says the proposals are being reviewed by the Ministry.
