Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Desmond McKenzie, has commended the management and staff of the St Elizabeth Infirmary in Santa Cruz for their commitment and hard work, and for keeping the facility in good order.

Following visits to the infirmary, Santa Cruz Market, the transportation centre and other public facilities, McKenzie said he has toured several infirmaries and St Elizabeth has stood out as a shining light.

"This infirmary is in really good condition and the staff is doing an excellent job. When you have your elderly in the care of the State, we have to do all we can for them," he added.

The Minister said he has committed funds to carry out work to enhance and build on what he has seen at the infirmary.

Meanwhile, McKenzie said he asked Mayor of Black River, Councillor Everton Fisher, to handle issues in the market, and he will be providing funds to clean up sections of the facility.

The minister pointed out that the challenges are not unique to the Santa Cruz market, and that others will be visited, with the objective of making them attractive and conducive to shopping.
