RGD hosts death symposium today

Published:Friday | May 6, 2016 | 12:00 AM

The Registrar General's Department (RGD) will today host a death symposium at the National Housing Trust Overtime Facility, 4 Park Boulevard, New Kingston.

The symposium, which gets under way at 10 a.m., is aimed at educating the public on the steps involved in handling matters pertaining to death; that is, from the moment death occurs to registering the death at the RGD.

As was the case at a death symposium hosted in Montego Bay, St James, in December 2015, participants will be taken through each step in the process of what to do when a death occurs.

The information will be delivered through presentations from the various stakeholders involved, including the police department, legal medicine unit, parish council, the Jamaica Bar Association, the RGD, and insurance companies.

Also included is the Electoral Office of Jamaica, which will speak to the importance of death registration to the electoral process.

The symposium, which is slated to end at 2 p.m., is free and open to anyone to attend.
