The Police High Command is extending commendations to the St Catherine South Police, who responded promptly to a robbery, arrested two suspects, recovered stolen property, and seized a firearm.
The episode began unfolding at about 2:10 a.m. on Tuesday, when the victims awoke in their Westmeade, St Catherine, home to find three men in their bedroom. The businessman reportedly attempted to resist the attackers but was overpowered and wounded by the hoodlums who robbed the couple of $180,000 as well as their 1995 Toyota Corolla motor car, which they used as the getaway car.
Their escape was short-lived as, after discovering the motor car abandoned in Garveymeade, one of the suspects was identified and police pursued him in the Hamilton Gardens area, where a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition was seized.
Investigations led the police to Central Village in the parish, where the team came under gunfire. A confrontation ensued and one suspect was shot and injured and another held.
Commanding officer for the division Senior Superintendent Noel Christie also commended the team.
