Government is planning to reduce the cess on exported conch.

Agriculture Minister Karl Samuda has announced that the government will be reducing the cess charged on exported conch.

Samuda says the plan is to reduce the tax from US$0.75 to US$0.50.

However, he did not indicate when the change would take effect.

Speaking during a tour of the Kingston offices of Rainforest Seafoods this week, the minister said the reduction of the cess on exported conch was aimed at boosting investment in the industry.

He says the ministry will be implementing changes to its quota system for the harvesting of conch.
