JLP shocked at death of politician Faye Reid Jacobs

Reid is believed to have killed herself after drinking a poisonous substance at her home in Long Mountain, St Andrew on Sunday evening.

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has expressed shock at the passing of one of its former candidates, Faye Reid Jacobs.

JLP General Secretary Dr  Horace Chang says Reid Jacobs was an important member of the party who was committed to the principles and vision of the organisation. 

"We are all in shock and mourning at this time," Chang said.

"She represented the party in Westmoreland Central in the past and remained close to the party after her resignation as caretaker."

Reid Jacobs is believed to have killed herself in St Andrew on Sunday night.

Investigators have not released the circumstances leading to her death, however, they say Reid Jacobs was taken to hospital after reportedly ingesting a chemical substance at her Long Mountain home about 6:30 p.m.

She was pronounced dead at hospital about 8:20 p.m.
