Tourism minister dispatches high-level team to Royalton hotel site

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has dispatched a high level team to the Royalton Negril Resort and Spa construction site.

KINGSTON, Jamaica:
Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett has dispatched a high-level team to the Royalton Negril Resort and Spa construction site in Hanover where a section of the building collapsed this morning injuring five workers.

The hotel is located on the site of the former Grand Lido Negril, which was demolished.

"We are very concerned about the safety and well being of the construction workers and hope that they will all make it through this ordeal. They are in my prayers," said Bartlett who is now overseas on official business.

He said the team which has been dispatched to the resort will report to directly to him regarding the situation on the ground.

Bartlett is currently participating in the 103rd Session of the Executive Council of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, which is being held at the Trade Fairs and Congress Center of Málaga, Spain.

He will return to the island on Sunday, May 15.
