Opposition Spokesperson on Youth, Lisa Hanna, is calling for the government to urgently enact legislation imposing stiffer penalties for persons who commit offences against children.

Hanna says the change in the law is needed in light of recent incidents of gruesome crimes against children across the country.

She notes that the legislative amendments were introduced in the House of Representatives in January, but that they fell off the legislative agenda following the dissolution of Parliament for the February 25 General Elections.

Hanna says the Opposition views incidents of crime against children as the most egregious of all and is urging the government to be swift in taking action.
