Co-Chairman of the Association of Local Government Authorities of Jamaica, Scean Barnswell, says parish councils are finalising preparations for the start of the 2016 hurricane season which begins on June 1.

Barnswell says drain cleaning, response mechanisms, identification of suitable shelters and training are among the areas of priority.

He notes that steps are already being taken to ensure that parish councils are adequately prepared to provide emergency supplies such as food and medication.

The co-chairman further says community sensitisation sessions have also been carried out.

Barnswell was speaking in an interview with JIS News.
