Empty oil tanks Jamaica's largest export to T&T - Shaw
Amid immigration tensions between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, Finance Minister Audley Shaw on Thursday highlighted trade as another area which represents serious imbalance between Jamaica and the republic.
According to Shaw, empty oil tanks worth $117 million represented Jamaica's largest volume of exports to the CARICOM country in the first four months of the year.
The total exports for the four-month period amounted to $178.9 million
At the same time, Jamaica imported goods worth more than $13 billion from Trinidad and Tobago.
Tensions have been brewing between both countries since some Jamaicans reported that they were treated harshly by Trinidadian immigration officials before being deported from Port of Spain.
Some Jamaicans have called for a boycott of products from Trinidad and Tobago saying that such a move would severely affect their economy.
