Eden Renal Services, located at Unit 18 Oasis Shopping Centre in Spanish Town, St Catherine, is making a meaningful mark on the lives of many who suffer from dreaded kidney diseases.

The facility, which opened its doors in October 2015, has been a life-changer for many who depend on dialysis machines to cleanse and filter their blood.

"I decided on the business after returning to Jamaica and found out that there was a great need for treatment of persons suffering from kidney failure," said Courtney Patterson, proprietor of Eden Renal Services.

He said that health-care costs can be prohibitive, so he tries to keep his costs low.

"I really feel for some patients who can hardly pay, as a result we charge only $10,500 per visit, which includes a doctor's visit," Patterson said.

The centre has doctors, nutrition specialists and specialist nurses on staff.

Patterson said the aim is to expand his business islandwide, as kidney problems affect a large number of Jamaicans.

REAL BLESSING

"Persons are given treatment when their kidney fails and to deal with the toxins in the body. If not treated, their health will deteriorate rapidly," Patterson said.

"This is a real blessing for me. I take my mother here twice weekly and we find it convenient and affordable. It is a great addition to health facilities in the parish," said Michael Bernard, a patron of the business.

The facility is equipped with five dialysis machines and treats up to 15 patients daily in a sterile environment.
