Transport Authority warns against fare increases

The Transport Authority says commuters of public passenger vehicles who have been affected by fare increases should file official complaints.

The Transport Authority is warning public transport operators against increasing fares in response to the increase in the Special Consumption Tax (SCT).

The Authority says it has received reports that some operators have raised fares.

But it is reminding public transportation operators that any increase in fares must first be reviewed by the Minister of Transport.

The authority is warning operators that charging unapproved fares is a breach of the law that can lead to prosecution.

In the meantime, the Transport Authority says commuters of public passenger vehicles who have been affected by fare increases should file official complaints.
