The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says it has increased operations in Spanish Town, St Catherine as it continues efforts to dismantle gangs operating in the old capital.

Recently, the Police reported that there has been increased tension in the area as a reputed gang leader seeks to regain control.

In a statement last night, the JCF said it has enhanced the deployment of intelligence operatives, investigators and operational personnel in areas dominated by the One Order and Clansman gangs.

It notes that in the last few days police personnel seized eight firearms and over 1,000 assorted rounds of ammunition in McCooks Pen which it says  intelligence suggests were under the control of the One Order Gang.

The Police say it is increasing its efforts to reduce internal conflicts in the Clansman gang, which has left several persons dead or seriously injured.

According to the JCF, it is believed that one element of the Clansman gang is reportedly seeking support from elements within the One Order gang to settle the ongoing and long-standing internal feud within the gang.

It is appealing to members of the public who have information about gang members, gang activities and their facilitators to come forward and tell what they know.

Meanwhile, the JCF says in addition to its operational activities it is also implementing community interventions.

It says it is collaborating with several interest groups and stakeholders to dissuade young people from joining criminal gangs as well as to assist those who are trying to leave gangs.
