$119.67b spent on gambling by Jamaicans last financial year

Jamaicans spent $119.67 billion last financial year on games of chance.

This was a jump of 22 per cent from 2014 when $97.7 billion in sales were generated from the betting, gaming and lottery sectors.

However, despite the jump in spending, Jamaicans also won big.

According to the 2015 annual report of Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission $103.15 billion were paid out to players last fiscal year.

A breakdown shows that the majority of the sales occurred in the gaming sector which took in a total of $75.1 billion. 

This is a 30 per cent increase over the last fiscal year when the gaming sector recorded $57.9 billion in sales.

The lottery sector recorded approximately $36.1 billion in sales last year, followed by racing which pulled in approximately $4.3 billion.

Betting by bookmakers generated approximately $4 billion in sales last year.
