Thousands left without power after heavy rains

More than 6,500 JPS customers were left without power following last night's heavy rains.

The power company says the affected customers were from Kingston, St Thomas, St Catherine, St Ann, St Mary, St James, Clarendon, and Manchester.

The company says the power delivery system has been affected by flooding, poles which have been displaced by landslides, and fallen trees coming in contact with the power lines.

JPS says crews are working to restore supply to the customers as quickly as possible.

The company says Emergency Operations have been activated in some sections of St Thomas which were badly affected by flooding.
