One of the students washed away by flood waters in St Thomas yesterday has been found dead.

Brittany Cowell’s body was found this morning in Cheswick, Dalvey.

The former student of Paul Bogle High School would have been 14 on Friday.

According to reports, Brittany and two other students from the school were walking on a roadway in the community yesterday evening, when they were washed away by the flood waters.

The two other girls were rescued late last evening.

One of them told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that they were swept away after they were let off by a bus, which was unable to make the full journey due to the flood waters.

The girl says she was able to hold on to a tree root.

She says the other girl was subsequently rescued by a man.
