Royalton says construction workers to be paid, no timeframe given
A senior representative of Royalton Resorts says workmen who were owed monies for doing construction work at the Negril site in Hanover should be compensated soon.
On Tuesday workers at the site staged a protest in which they blocked the entrance to the property demanding payments for work done, shortly before a section of the building collapsed two weeks ago, leaving five workmen seriously injured.
The site was subsequently ordered closed by minister of Local Government, Desmond McKenzie.
But General Manager of the Royalton White Sands Enrico Pezzoli says the contractors have informed the hotel that payment will be made to the workers in short order.
However, he was unable to give a specific timeframe or to say whether there would be any payment for the time workers have been off the job.
