NWC still working to fully restore St Thomas water supply

The National Water Commission (NWC) says it’s still working to restore regular water supply to areas of St Thomas.

The NWC says about 10 of its water supply systems were severely affected by the recent flood rains in the parish.

It says work has been successfully completed to restore most of these systems back into normal operations.

However, it says it expects that the repairs required to the Whitehall system are more extensive and will likely continue into next week.

The NWC says the Whitehall water supply system which had only just been repaired, suffered extensive siltation at the impoundment.

It also says significant pieces of its pipelines were washed away it also suffered from landslides on the access roads and at the facility.

The NWC says the repair work has been slowed by frequent rainfall over the past several days.

Areas normally served by the Whitehall water supply system are Whitehall, sections of Seafort, sections of Spring Gardens, Middleton, and Soho.

The National Water Commission says it will continue to truck water to the affected areas during the period of disruption.
