Hello Mi Neighbour | No rhyme nor reason to hate

Published:Thursday | June 2, 2016 | 12:00 AM

Hello, mi neighbour! Try as you may, everyone will not like you. Some will love you, some will hate you. Hatred, most times, has neither rhyme nor reason. Yet, we have an obligation from the source of all wisdom, power and love to love everyone - even our worst enemies. Our worst enemies oftentimes are lurking somewhere in the hearts of our best friends or trusted relatives. Be careful who you invite to journey through life with you.

Who could have known that Sister B's* daughter would have plotted with her boyfriend to kill her in order to collect the insurance money? Despite the cold-heartedness of our fellow men/women, we can hardly exist without them. Those who become fed up with people and resort to a reclusive lifestyles are seldom better off. We are social beings - always wanting to be where others are. Notice how crowds attract crowds? I rest my case.

We must, therefore, find a way to live among our enemies with our happiness intact. There is something called power of love, which will empower you to overpower and melt evil. No one denies that evil is very strong, but love is so powerful that an ounce of it will neutralise tons of evil.

If we continue to use evil to fight evil in pursuit of peace, our world will become a more evil place. While evildoers may be wiped out in the process, evil will continue to dance around. The only thing that can overcome evil is good.

Pride always cause people to react in a negative way, spreading more evil, leading to reprisal and revenge. Pride goes before a fall.

Do you notice what usually becomes of people who try to hurt you when you leave them to God and time? In many cases, they become your proverbial doormats - looking to you for mercy. And we must have mercy!

'Blessed are the merciful, they shall obtain mercy'.

So the Master said: "Bless those who persecute you. Bless and do not curse ... . Associate with the humble. Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written,

'Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.

'If your enemy is hungry, feed him.

'If he is thirsty, give him a drink.

'Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good'", and all your days will be good. Wow!
