The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is advising citizens that between June 6-28, there will be a contingent of overseas military personnel, vehicles and equipment in the island, as part of a regional security training exercise entitled Exercise Tradewinds.

Ex Tradewinds is an annual multinational maritime interdiction, ground security and interagency exercise facilitated and funded by the United States.

It will focus on Countering Transnational Organized Crime and will involve the participation of 19 countries from the Caribbean, Central America, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and France.

The JDF is advising residents that there is no need to be alarmed by the presence of the foreign troops, vehicles and equipment in and around their community as no live rounds will be used during the exercise.

Residents are being asked not to interfere with and/or move any training aides they may come across.

In the event that unexploded ordnances or paraphernalia are found, please do not hesitate to report to the JDF Headquarters at telephone number 960-8776.

Members of the public who may have concerns about the presence of soldiers in their area may also contact the JDF at telephone number 960-8776.
