JCF warns of malicious emails

Published:Tuesday | June 7, 2016 | 6:18 AM

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is alerting members of the public, particularly those in corporate Jamaica, to be on the lookout for a malicious email, purportedly from the Police, which has been circulating.

The JCF says the email is sent from the domain jamaicanpolice.com and purports that the police have received a complaint against the recipient and advises the user to follow a series of instructions.

The force says the email was not sent by any arm or division of the Constabulary.

It is advising persons in receipt of the email not to respond to it and to delete the email immediately.

The JCF says the email is suspected to be a phishing tool, meaning it is designed to procure people's personal data.

The JCF says its Information and Communication Technology Division is now working with cybercrimes detectives to determine the source of the email.
