Energy Minister to look into complaints of considerable jump in petrol prices

Energy Minister Dr Andrew Wheatley says he will be looking into reports of high petrol prices at some gas stations across the island.

The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre has been receiving complaints from motorists who claim the prices of petrol have jumped considerably in the last month.

Wheatley says he has not received any reports on the matter.

However, the Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association (JGRA) says it has been monitoring prices at the pumps which have been creeping up since the announcement of an increase in the special consumption tax on fuel last month.

JGRA president Leonard Green has blamed the increases on marketing companies who sell gas at much higher prices than those given by Petrojam.
