The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) says it has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of two civilians during a police operation in Maverly on Denver Crescent in St Andrew early this morning.

The deceased men have been identified 23-year-old twin brothers Rhamone and Ramesh Cummings of a Waterhouse address.

Reports are that a team of 25 police officers were on an operation in the Maverly area, in search of wanted men and guns.

The police allegedly went to the Denver Crescent address and were met by two persons who allowed them access to the house.

The shootings reportedly happened when the police entered the house to carry out a search.

INDECOM says it arrived on the scene soon after the incident and interviewed police officers who were later served with notices.

INDECOM says the weapons assigned to the officers were also taken out of circulation and packaged for submission to the Government Forensic Laboratory.

Investigators also interviewed witnesses and processed the bodies of the deceased men.
