On July 1 and 2 at the Kencot Christian Fellowship, 6 Parry Road in Kingston women will be empowered through the She's Royal Movement Empowerment conference.

Among the main speakers will be Brittney Jay of the United States, who will be visiting Jamaica for the first time.

Jay who shared her story with Family and Religion said she is looking forward to sharing as, "I expect to encourage women to live their lives fully surrendered to Christ in every area."

Jay who once enjoyed promiscuous lifestyle opened up about her addiction and how her life has been totally transformed.

Raised in the church, she had a great childhood with loving parents. She went through the cheerleader phase, class president and being one of the popular ones in school.

"Since middle school, I always had a little boyfriend and at that time I didn't realise I was using guys to fill the voids in my life. I remained a virgin throughout high school, went to church, and read my Bible sometimes, but my heart was still far from God."

Things changed when Jay started attending Albany State University in New York. Although she felt the call of God on her life, she shut out that voice.

"As a freshman, God was drawing me, but I ignored Him for the most part. I went to Bible study on campus, but I lived like God didn't exist. I partied, got drunk, cursed, had sex, watched porn, masturbated and did all the very things that God detests. I still thought I was saved because I repeated the sinner's prayer when I was younger, but my whole life contradicted what God word has said a true Christian was," Jay said.

She continued to live a double life - being mommy and daddy's 'sweet angel' when she was home and away she did everything that would have shocked them.

Wrong relationships

Throughout her university years she ended up in wrong relationships, got hurt but as she said, "The whole time I knew he wasn't God's best for me, but I was okay with living a lie pretending like I was happy like most women do."

In the latter part of 2011 into 2012 Jay made drastic changes to her lifestyle moving back home and taking classes online until she graduated.

"I had to get away from that college lifestyle people were living. It's like once you get around a lot of immorality you get desensitised to it, and the things you thought were abnormal have now become normal. God started drawing me like crazy and stripping things away from me. I decided to end the little 'situationship' that I was in and made the vow in December 2011 that I would not have sex again until I was married," she said.

According to Jay, she was tired of being hurt and misused by guys who didn't value her.

"I always knew that sex outside of marriage was a sin against God, but I ignored what God said because I loved my sin and pleasure more than I loved Him."

Finally on May 27, 2012, Jay said she saw herself as the filthy sinner she was, repented and accepted Christ as her Saviour.

"Immediately after Christ saved me, I had such a desperation and hunger to read His word and know Him. It's like the scales fell from my eyes and I begin to see clearly. I saw the state that the world is in, and how most people are lost and on the way to hell and don't even know it," she said.

Now filled with a passion for Christ, Jay is hoping to get other women in Jamaica just as enthused as she makes an appeal for to the women here who are living a sexually immoral life like she was.

"Christ can save you from whatever you are bound to: fornication, homosexuality, adultery, low self-esteem, drug addiction, masturbation, alcoholism, and depression. Jesus came to seek and save that which is lost. But, we can't be saved if we don't think that we're even lost," are her words.

Now holding her head high, Jay said she has no shame about her past as Christ has totally set her free.

"My closet is open, there are no skeletons to hide. I am no longer a slave to the opinions of man, I am a slave to the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that when people hear my testimony, they will know that Christ can set them free from anything!"
