Ethiopian foreign minister arrives today
Ethiopia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is scheduled to arrive in the island today for a two-day official visit geared at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the visit, the Ethiopian Consulate to Jamaica will host a welcome reception in honour of Tedros.
The foreign affairs minister will meet with various members of the Jamaican Government to boost the long-standing and historical bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Jamaica.
He will also seek support for Ethiopia's bid to become a member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2017-2018.
This occasion marks the first time that an Ethiopian government minister has visited Jamaica.
The highest level visit by the Ethiopian Government to Jamaica was the historic visit paid by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1966.
Tedros' visit comes just days after a visit by Girma Birru, Ethiopian Ambassador to Jamaica, North America and Mexico.
