Gov't to increase monetary support for foster care

State Minister in the Education and Youth Ministry Floyd Green says his ministry has not yet decided on the increase that will be granted to foster parents, but will do so after consultations with the Foster Parents across the island.

State Minister in the Education and Youth Ministry Floyd Green has announced plans to increase the monetary support given to foster parents.

Currently foster parents receive $4,000 per month from the government.

Green says his ministry has not yet decided on the increase that will be granted to foster parents, but will do so after consultations with the Foster Parents across the island.

He also says increasing the subventions to foster parents is part of efforts to enhance the system in the interest of the children in state care.

Jamaica has some 800 foster parents who partner with the state to help raise children in state care.
