Prisoner found dead in St Elizabeth lock-up

Detectives attached to the Black River Criminal Investigations Branch are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a male prisoner who was found unconscious in his cell at the Black River Police Lock-up in St Elizabeth this morning. 

He has been identified as 26-year-old Roshane Baker of Lacovia, St Elizabeth and Golden Heights in Denham Town, Kingston 14.

The police say Baker was charged with the murder of district constable Lewis Robinson and was remanded in custody.

They say about 5:45 this morning police personnel were alerted to Baker’s cell where he was found lying on the ground unresponsive and had what appear to be stabbed wounds to his body.

The police say he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.  

The police say the matter is being investigated by the Inspectorate of the Constabulary and Independent Commission of Investigations.
