Nine-year-old boy dies from H1N1 virus in St Lucia
Health authorities have urged St Lucians to remain vigilant and guard against vector borne diseases after a nine-year-old boy died from the H1N1 virus.
The Trinidad-based Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) confirmed that the boy had died from the virus.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Merlene Fredericks says the authorities are investigating the situation to ensure that the child did not have any underlying medical conditions which may have predisposed him to the outcome.
Fredericks says members of the public can access the flu shots, available at all wellness centres on the island at no cost.
The island had a huge H1N1 outbreak in 2009, with thousands of children affected.
