Resort boards to be restructured, new bodies to be given greater powers
Tourism Minister Edmond Bartlett has indicated that he will be disbanding resort boards and will be replacing them with a more effective system.
According to the tourism minister, for resort boards to be effective, they must have authority, and so new bodies will be given greater powers.
In his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament yesterday, Bartlett said the tourism ministry is finalising the new structure and the new bodies will be in place by September.
The minister also said the new bodies will be inclusive and will comprise a wide cross section of tourism stakeholders.
Stakeholders have complained about uncollected garbage and public disorder in some resort areas as well as a breakdown in effective management.
Bartlett conceded that while there have been some successes there is room for significant improvement.
