Prime Minister Andrew Holness has requested that the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) and the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) collaborate in determining options to address the erosion of the Negril beach.

This was noted by Minister of Education, Youth and Information Ruel Reid at a post-Cabinet press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister on Wednesday.

Reid said that a Negril breakwater project is being considered to accommodate the direction of resources to address the issue.

"Cabinet has been advised that there continues to be discussions with the parties involved," Reid said.

The minister pointed out that Cabinet approved contracts for the rehabilitation of the Belvedere feeder road in Westmoreland valuing $40.7 million.
