New stoplight at Municipal Boulevard

Traffic at the Municipal Boulevard, Passagefort Drive and Grange Lane in St Catherine is to be controlled by electronic signals starting today.

The National Works Agency (NWA) says the traffic signals were set to be turned on at 10 o’clock this morning.

The agency says $60 million worth of intersection improvement work was recently completed at that junction.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the project has resulted in the carriageways being increased to seven metres wide.

He says some 200 metres of the corridor was rehabilitated and traffic signals installed.

He says right turning lanes for all approaches have also been constructed.

Sidewalks and a push button system have been added to facilitate pedestrians.

Shaw says road users are being advised to use the intersection in a responsible manner to minimise the likelihood of accidents.
