$1.5 billion initiative to provide electricity for 25 communities

Energy Minister, Dr Andrew Wheatley says the project will build on existing initiatives between the energy ministry and key stakeholders.

Energy Minister, Dr Andrew Wheatley, has indicated that $1.5 billion have been earmarked for this financial year to provide electricity to residents in poor communities.

Wheatley said the project will target 25 communities in St James, St Catherine, Kingston and St Andrew.

He said the project is being pursued under the ministry’s Street Lighting, Installations, Loss Reduction and Community Renewal Initiative.

According to Wheatley, the project will build on existing initiatives between the energy ministry and key stakeholders.

He was speaking in his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament yesterday.
