MANDEVILLE, Manchester:

Former Minister of National Security Peter Bunting has said it is time for current minister Robert Montague to settle down and address the crime portfolio.

"We are at an interesting time, the honeymoon is finished, the first 100 days are over ... we hear a different tune singing now, we see people who are struggling to deal with one of the toughest portfolios, and their answer is to tell the police to wear more condoms, not to give them bullet-proof vest, not to give them body-worn cameras or more vehicles, but to wear more condoms," Bunting said on Sunday at divisional conference in Mandeville.

He added: "My suggestion to the new minister of national security is try buckle down and focus on the policy measures that will make a difference. No sense you make a suggestion that they bring back hanging when you know that is out of your control ... focus on what is going to be effective," Bunting advised.
