A man was hospitalised with life-threatening injuries after a motor vehicle crash along the Hope Bay main road in Portland last night.

Reports that the hospitalised man was speeding in a white Honda Civic motor car towards Port Antonio when he lost control of the vehicle as he attempted to negotiate a corner. The Honda Civic crashed head-on into a red Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

The police say the impact caused the driver of the Honda to lose further control of the vehicle, as it slammed into a utility pole before stopping in a coconut field on an adjoining property.

The driver of the Honda Civic was airlifted to hospital about 2 o'clock this morning. The other occupants of both vehicles were also rushed to hospital, however, they were treated for non-left threatening injuries.
