PNPYO mum on departure timetable for Portia, Patriots want firm date
The People’s National Party Youth Organisation is reserving comments on whether party president Portia Simpson Miller should step down amid increasing calls for her to do so.
But another PNP affiliate, the Patriots, says Simpson Miller should detail her departure timetable.
This follows Simpson Miller's announcement of her desire to continue as president after the PNP's annual conference in September.
On Sunday, former PNP vice president Dr Karl Blythe used a PNP National Executive Council Meeting to ask Mrs Simpson Miller to develop a clear plan when she will step down.
According to the Patriots, the PNP urgently needs to undertake a programme of renewal, which it says can only be done with a change of leadership.
The organization also says it maintains full confidence in its chairman, Javette Nixon despite calls for disciplinary action against him for public comments about Simpson Miller’s perceived reluctance to step down.
