In this file photo authentic Jamaican $1,000, $500, $100 and $50 notes are shown.

The police are, this evening, alerting members of the public to be on the lookout for counterfeit Jamaican currency.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) says multiple counterfeit notes have been discovered in the last 24 hours.

CCU says the counterfeit notes were discovered as cash that were tendered as payment at one of the country’s international airport was being processed.

It says the forgeries are limited to the Jamaican $1,000 notes, which all bear the serial number CC174514.

CCU is urging members of the public to take the necessary precaution when dealing with cash and to immediately contact the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime division if any counterfeit notes are discovered.
