Sagicor Foundation awards Sigma Run sponsors
The Sagicor Foundation recognised and awarded sponsors and partners of the 2016 Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run at a special appreciation reception at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Wednesday, June 29.
The major sponsors were honoured by Sagicor for their support during the Sigma Run, from which $45 million in cash and kind was raised to benefit the Jamaica Cancer Society, Black River Hospital's Paediatric Unit and children living with cancer in Jamaica.
World and Olympic champions Novlene Williams-Mills and Asafa Powell, patrons of the 2016 Sigma Run, presented awards to the sponsors across various categories. Companies that had teams of 250 persons or more were also recognised.
Powell and Williams-Mills were also honoured by Sagicor President and CEO Richard Byles for their contributions to the staging of the road race. Byles thanked the teams and sponsors for their commitment, noting they were part of a record-breaking year.
"The target was an ambitious one, but through the dedication of you our partners and sponsors, we will be able to give back and make an impact on health care in Jamaica, and for that we are extremely proud," he said.
"Sagicor is grateful for the overwhelming support we received for the 2016 beneficiaries."
Companies that have supported the Sagicor Sigma Run since its inception in 1999 were also recognised. They are Bank of Jamaica; FLOW (then branded as Cable and Wireless/LIME); J. Wray and Nephew and National Commercial Bank.
Companies across all tiers were recognised for their contribution to the annual run. In its 18-year history, Sigma Run has raised more than J$200 million for child- and health-care facilities in Jamaica.
