Police Commissioner Carl Williams says continued calls for his resignation may cause him to consider an earlier exit from the post.

Police Commissioner Carl Williams says he has already set a timetable for leaving the job amid calls for his resignation from office following the hike in crime in Western Jamaica.

However, speaking on RJR's Beyond The Headlines, he says continued calls for his resignation may cause him to consider an earlier exit from the post.

Despite the criticisms Williams said he is confident that the police force is doing its best to curtail crime and violence in Jamaica.

Williams said he believes the police will get crime under control with short-term measures that they will implement and the support being received from the government.
