In his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in parliament yesterday, Warmington said the procurement rules allow for three quotes to be received and an award made based on the prices under the $500,000 limit.

The State Minister with responsibility for works Everald Warmington, wants the ceiling where a government contract does not have to go to tender to be increased to $1.5 million.

Currently, contracts only under $500,000 do not have to go to tendered.

In his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in parliament yesterday, Warmington said the procurement rules allow for three quotes to be received and an award made based on the prices under the $500,000 limit.

He noted that the Jamaican dollar has devalued by some 65 to 70 per cent since the limit was increased to $500,000 some time ago.

Warmington said the system is in need of change to reflect current realities adding that increasing the ceiling would help to reduce delays.
