TAJ to educate public on income tax threshold changes

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says it has embarked on a campaign to educate the public about the changes to the Personal Income Tax threshold implemented last Friday.

As was promised by the government, the amount of their salaries Jamaicans take home tax free has been increased to $1,000,272.

The statutory income tax rate for persons earning in excess of $6 million also moved up to 30 per cent last week.

The TAJ says it will be using press releases, interviews, publications, social media, and its website to make persons more aware of the changes.

TAJ says its experts are currently working with accountants, employers and payroll software developers to provide guidance on how the taxes are to be deducted from salaries.

The agency says it will also be hosting sensitisation sessions across the island to educate employers and the general public.
