$3m worth of ganja seized in Russia, Westmoreland
The Narcotics Police are vowing to intensify their operations to further disrupt the guns for drugs trade between Jamaica and Haiti.
It follows the weekend seizure of more than $3 million worth of ganja in the Russia district of Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.
The illegal quantity of ganja was found by detectives attached to the Narcotics Division supported by the Area One Police.
The police say no one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
It is reported that about 9:30 on Saturday evening, the police conducted an operation in the Russia community where they found 21 knitted plastic bags with several parcels of compressed ganja.
The drug, which weighed approximately 806 pounds, has an estimated street value of $3.2 million.
Commanding Officer for Narcotics Division, Senior Superintendent McArthur Sutherland says the police believe the drug was intended for Haiti in support of the illegal drugs for guns trade with criminals in Jamaica.
