Earlier this year, Noranda laid off more than 30 workers, citing financial constraints as the main reason.

The University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU) is to meet with the management of the Noranda Bauxite Company in St Ann this week to review the proposed redundancy packages for some workers.

Earlier this year, Noranda laid off more than 30 workers, citing financial constraints as the main reason.

The UAWU which represents 22 of the workers had been lobbying for Noranda to reinstate the employees.

Some workers have since indicated that they would prefer if their positions are made redundant.

However, they are not happy with the proposed redundancy package.

Meanwhile, Brown says the UAWU is continuing to lobby for the other Noranda workers to be reinstated.

Last month the UAWU said it would consider taking the issue with Noranda to the labour ministry if negotiations break down.
