The police said they have charged the prime suspect in the slaying of three-year-old Nevalesia Campbell in Orange Hill, St Ann earlier this week.

Superintendent Wayne Cameron, who heads the St Ann police, told The Gleaner that the suspect, Alexus  'Dal Dal' Newland, 19, the victim’s neighbour, was charged as at 5 p.m. yesterday.

Asked how soon Newland will be brought before the courts, Superintendent Cameron said: “We have set a court date but we will not disclose it as yet because of security reasons. We will, however, disclose it at a later date.”

Superintendent Cameron also told our news team that Campbell’s mother and her partner will face the courts today.

They have been charged with breaches of the Child Care and Protection Act.

Reports are that they were attending a party when Campbell was apparently abducted and chopped to death.
